BIOGRAPHY

Armando Christian Pérez, born January 15, 1981, known by his stage name Pitbull or Mr. Worldwide, is an American rapper. Pitbull's first major public performance was on a solo track of Lil Jon's 2002 album, Kings of Crunk, where Pitbull raps on Jon's production. In 2004, Pitbull released his debut album titled M.I.A.M.I. (Money Is a Major Issue) under TVT Records; the album featured productions from Lil Jon and Jim Jonsin. Pitbull subsequently released his second album El Mariel in 2006 and his third, The Boatlift, in 2007. His fourth album, Rebelution (2009), included the hit single "I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)", which reached number two on the US Billboard Hot 100. Pitbull's 2011 album Planet Pit included the single "Give Me Everything", which became his first number one single in the US. His title "Timber" from the EP Meltdown in 2013 topped the charts in twenty countries, including the US and the UK. He performed the song "We Are One (Ole Ola)" with Jennifer Lopez and Claudia Leitte, which served as the official theme to the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Armando Christian Perez was born on January 15, 1981, in Miami, Florida, to Cuban expatriate parents. At the age of 3, he could recite the works of Cuban national hero and poet José Martí in Spanish. Growing up, he was influenced by the Miami bass pop genre and cited Celia Cruz and Willy Chirino as inspirations for his music. Pérez's parents separated when he was young, and he was raised by his mother; he spent time with a foster family in Roswell, Georgia. He attended South Miami Senior High before graduating from Miami Coral Park High, where he focused his career on rap. He has stated that he chose his stage name Pitbull because pit bulls "bite to lock. The dog is too stupid to lose. And they're banned in Dade County. They're essentially everything I am. It's been a fight." After meeting Lil Jon in Miami, Pitbull appeared on Lil Jon and the East Side Boyz's album Kings of Crunk in 2002. Pitbull's song "Oye" was featured on the soundtrack of the film 2 Fast 2 Furious the following year. Additionally, Pitbull released several mixtapes, composed of freestyles and remixes of popular rap music. Campbell presented Pitbull on his single, "Lollipop", where they focused on creating a more radio-friendly sound. Pitbull's debut album, M.I.A.M.I. (Money Is a Major Issue), was released in August 2004 and peaked at number 32 on the Billboard 200. His first single was "Culo", produced by Lil Jon and the Diaz Brothers. It topped out at number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100. Other singles included "Dammit Man", "Back Up", "Toma", and "That's Nasty" (both featuring Lil Jon).
