Finzi Contini

BIOGRAPHY

Guido Finzi Contini (1897-1940) was an Italian composer and musicologist. He was born in Florence, Italy, into a family of musicians. His father, Vittorio, was a composer and conductor, and his mother, Bianca, was a singer. Guido began his musical studies at a young age, and by the age of 15, he was already playing the piano and violin in his father's orchestra. He also studied composition with his father. In 1916, he enlisted in the Italian army and served during the First World War. After the war, he returned to his studies, and in 1920, he obtained a degree in musicology from the University of Florence. In 1922, he was appointed musical director of the Florence Opera. He held this position until his death in 1940. During his tenure, he oversaw the production of numerous operas, including Verdi's "Otello" and "Falstaff". He also composed several operas, the most famous of which is "La Festa dell'Unicorno" (The Feast of the Unicorn).
