BIOGRAPHY
Franz Novotny was an Austrian artist born in Vienna on July 9, 1883. He studied music at the University of Vienna before becoming a conductor and composer. In 1909, he was appointed principal conductor of the Vienna Opera, and in 1912, he became director of the Prague Opera. After World War I, he returned to Vienna to resume his position at the Vienna Opera. In 1922, he became director of the Berlin Opera, and in 1926, he resumed his position in Vienna. In 1933, he conducted the Munich Opera before returning to Vienna. He died on July 9, 1941.
