BIOGRAPHY

Avesta is a Swedish black metal band originating from Gothenburg, formed in 1996. The band's music is characterized by a raw and minimalist approach, with an extensive use of repetition. Lyrics are often abstract and deal with themes of duality, death, and rebirth. Avesta was formed in 1996 by guitarist and vocalist Natt, bassist and vocalist Cvalda, and drummer Draugur. The band's early compositions were heavily influenced by Swedish black metal bands such as Marduk and Dissection, as well as American death metal bands like Morbid Angel and Immolation. In 1998, the band released their first demo, titled "The Firstborn". In 1999, Avesta released their first full-length album, "The Firstborn", through the Swedish label Necropolis Records.
