Alex Young is a electronic music and techno artist from Glasgow, Scotland. He began his career as a DJ and producer in 1995 and quickly gained an international reputation for his energetic performances and bold productions. In 2000, he founded the electronic music label Soma Quality Recordings, which has become one of the most important techno labels in the world. Young is also known for his remixes of electronic music classics, such as Derrick May's "Strings of Life" title. In 2014, he was ranked 24th on Resident Advisor's list of the top 100 techno DJs. As a child from a musical family, Young began playing music at the age of four. He studied classical piano, guitar, and drums, and was a member of several rock bands before turning to electronic music. After discovering the music of Detroit techno pioneers Derrick May, Juan Atkins, and Kevin Saunderson, he began producing his own techno tracks and broadcasting them on local radio. In 1995, he made his first club set in Glasgow and quickly caught the attention of the city's leading club organizers. He quickly established himself as an energetic and daring DJ, and in 2000, he founded Soma Quality Recordings. In 2017, his fifth album, "The Edinburgh School III", was even better received than the second. In 2018, his sixth album, "The London School IV", was even better received than the third. In 2019, his seventh album, "The Glasgow School III", was even more appreciated than the first.
