Biography of 77th District
77th District is a French music group formed in 1977. The group experienced commercial success with their album "77th District" in 1978, which reached number one on the charts in France. The group disbanded in 1980, but reunited in 2006. They released a new album, "77th District II" in 2007.
The group was formed by Jean-Claude Vannier and Gérard Bikialo in 1977. They were joined by bassist Jean-Marc Roberts and drummer Jean-Pierre Pisani. The group signed with CBS Records and released their first album, "77th District" in 1978. The album reached number one on the charts in France and was certified gold. The single "Dance Dance Dance" was a commercial success, reaching number two on the charts in France.
The group released a second album, "2nd District" in 1979. The album received less positive reception than the first and did not have the same level of commercial success. The group disbanded in 1980. Jean-Claude Vannier went on to pursue a solo career and worked with numerous artists, including Serge Gainsbourg, Beck, Air, and Charlotte Gainsbourg. Gérard Bikialo, meanwhile, created the record label Bikialo Productions.
After reuniting in 2006, the group released a new album, "77th District II" in 2007. The album was well received by critics and reached number two on the charts in France. The group subsequently embarked on a tour of France and Europe to promote the album.
In 2009, the group released a live album, "77th District Live," recorded during their 2007 tour. They then embarked on a world tour to promote the album, including a performance at the Glastonbury Festival in 2009.
Subsequently, the group released several studio and live albums, continuing to find success in France and Europe. They have also participated in renowned festivals such as Glastonbury.
