Andrew Gold (born August 2, 1951) was an American singer-songwriter, musician, and producer. Raised in Los Angeles, he began his musical career in the 1960s by playing guitar in Sunset Strip clubs. He later joined the psychedelic pop group The Factory before going solo in 1970. Throughout his career, Gold recorded nine studio albums and had several international hits, including "Lonely Boy" and "Thank You for Being a Friend." In addition to his solo career, Gold also worked as a session musician and collaborated with artists such as Linda Ronstadt, 10cc, Art Garfunkel, Cher, Bonnie Raitt, and James Taylor. He also produced albums for artists such as Amy Grant, Wilson Phillips, and Shawn Colvin. Gold passed away on June 3, 2011, at the age of 59.
